This item was donated by Alderman Smailes in January 1987.

 

The barque Mountaineer was built on Prince Edward Island in 1846 and was registered in Whitby, with T Turnbull as owner, in January 1847. She was altered to a brig at Whitby in 1850, and was sold at Ystad, Sweden in 1877.
