The donor, born in 1912, is the daughter of Thomas and Prycena Fletcher. Thomas who died in 1924, is thought to have come from Yorkshire, moving to Manchester when he was 10 years old. Prycena's parents, Pryce and Margaret Williams came from Welshpool, Montgomeryshire. In 1890 the family left Wales, for Pryce had obtained work at Liverpool Road Station, Deansgate. The couple had 6 children, 3 girls, Prycena, Ethel and Lily, and 3 boys, David, Albert and Edwin. David and Albert were killed in World War I. In later years Pryce returned to Wales, but Margaret remained in Manchester. Prycena married in 1899, her husband Thomas worked for Manchester cleansing department. They lived at 42, Lower Byrom Street until 1918, removing then to 15 Little John Street where they remained until 1933. Of their 7 children only 1 son died in infancy. After Thomas' death, Prycena went to work at Minshull Street Police Station. She stayed there until her retirement. The donor, the youngest of the family, married William Holmes in 1936. |
