The firm had Jumples, Haley, Beech Hill, Box Trees Mills and also Victoria Mills, Brighouse. It was an extensive business, employing some 500 people, with 80,000 doubling and spinning spindles. They also had significant foreign trade. Their telegraphic address at one time was simply "Cotton, Halifax"! In the late 1960s, the business was taken over by John Atkinson and Sons of Sowerby Bridge. In November 1971, the mill - and its 120 ft tall chimney - was demolished to make way for redevelopment |
