Description: |
Leigh, William, to the 7th Earl. Sheffield. Detailed report on local affairs. Has paid Crown Rents for Shottle, Postern and Wynlande (Derbys.). Will pay Henry Tamworth £280 before November 1st. Has sent up to the Earl all obtainable money, £290. Has arrested George Sytwell of Eckington (Derbys.), for breach of covenant he made with the Earl, i.e. that his cousin Robert Sytwell of Devonshire would join with him to surrender the interest in land at Sutton in Ashfield (Notts.), bought by the Earl two years ago. Does not consider that the Earl's steward in Hallamshire, Francis West, is supporting the Earl's interest, e.g. in a case at Wigtwizzle (Yorks.), settled to the Earl's detriment. Leigh has reprimanded the Steward and jury. Appreciates the Earl's care in the case between himself and Mr. Parson Sale. The Earl's baker, Hewghe Lyndroppe, has died and been buried at the Manor. |
