Title: Colour photocopy of a family group outside the Post Office at Longshaw [Longshaw Common is one mile south of Orrell].
Description:

In her reply to the letter accompanying the deposit, the curator suggests the following: "I get the feeling that Mr Rigby, if it is he on the right, is in on a joke with the photographer at the expense of the three females. While their pose is relatively formal (as was considered appropriate for the camera and imitates what was the accepted norm inside the studio), Mr Rigby's stance and posture is quite informal. It suggests to me somebody who has crept out round the back and then sneaked up behind to appear in the picture to surprise the women when they get the prints. The end of the house and the garden gate post would normally have constituted the edge of such a photograph, so the inclusion of the informal male is deliberate."
