The division of the Sackville (Dukes of Dorset) estates in the 19th century has led to the migration of the bulk of the records of this, the greatest landed estate in the history of East Sussex, to Knole in Kent. From there they have been deposited in the Centre for Kentish Studies, Maidstone (CKS, formerly Kent Archives Office), under reference U269. They include deeds and estate papers of the Sackville, Cranfield and other related families in Kent, Sussex, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Derbyshire, Essex and other counties, and family and official papers of the Sackville, Cranfield, Whitworth and Bourchier and other related families

The manorial records of this estate were deposited in East Sussex Record Office in 1960 by Adams of Lewes, solicitors, by permission of Lord De La Warr, and are kept under reference ADA
