Administrative / biographical background: |
The school was opened in September 1955 and took its name from the Very Reverend Hugh Richard Lawrie (Dick), who was the vicar of St. Martins-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square. The school was originally built to accommodate 900 pupils but by January 1972 had increased its size to 1,010 pupils. This number included 256 pupils who were over the leaving age and were following extended study courses. During the early 1990s the school began encountering various problems. This resulted in a number of school inspections and reports and the closure of the school in 1994. |
