Richard Oldham 'Volume IV' This is the first of two volumes containing documents relating to Richard Oldham who from 1861-1862 Collected plants for Kew in eastern Asia and India. It includes: copies of correspondence sent to William Hooker and John Smith at Kew (folios 1-48); Oldham's journal from 1 January 1862 to 31 January 1862 (folios 49-54) and from 23 January 1864 to 31 January 1864 (folios 59-62); a 'Narrative of a visit made to the Kouan Archipelago in HM Surveying Vessel 'Swallow' in the summer of 1863; with notices of the botany and agriculture of the islands visited' (folios 55-58); lists of the contents of specimen boxes sent to Kew (folios 63-73); lists of specimens obtained by Oldham and other Collectors written by Henry Fletcher Hance (folios 74-119, 124-162); and correspondence by Hance and Robert Swinhoe of the British Consulate in Taiwan relating to these lists (folios 120, 121, 122). |
