Description:

Vouchers to stable accounts from Aug. 1824 (after death of elder bro. made him Titchfield) to April 1854 when he succeeded to Dukedom. Cover all items of stable expenditure:- food, grazing at Clipstone Park farm, stud, cleaning materials, fuel, farriery and smith's work, etc.; Wages and expenses of servants travelling with horses (later by railway), their liveries, etc., and medical attendance; dogs; stakes and lists of races (Doncaster, Nottingham); rents and payments for planting, etc., at fox cover at Babington Springs in Marnham and at Laneham; also. e.g. umbrella repaired 1843; contribution to debt of Wellow Hospital, 1847, riding habit for Lady Emily de Burgh, 1847. Several illustrated bill heads (e.g. for Red Lion at Worksop); mostly local, but also London, Edinburg, Sheffield, York, etc.
