Administrative / biographical background: |
Joseph Ashley, a London draper, purchased Ashby St. Ledgers from Esther Ianson in 1703. When his great nephew, also Joseph, died in 1798 the estate passed to his daughter Mary who had married Sir Joseph Senhouse of Cumberland. Elizabeth Senhouse married Joseph Pocklington in 1835. Lord Wimbourne purchased the estate in 1903. |
