Description:

Folios 499-500. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from John Walsham, Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board reporting his inspection of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union Workhouse on 16 February 1857; it includes details of medical provisions, management of the school, the vagrant wards, and numbers of vagrants.
He reports that there is no detached hospital but that even so there are few sick cases and how the infectious cases are dealt with especially as there is an outbreak of scarlatina in the school but not the malignant type and the situation is improving. With regard to the school, Mr Bowyer, School Inspector, had inspected the school on 20 September [1856] and sent in a favourable report. The guardians raised the question about the maintenance of pupils and Bowyer suggested that expense could come from the profit of the farm cultivated by the boys.
