Comprising views of Ipswich and district and numerous family and other portraits, all dating from the 1850s.

 

Richard Dykes Alexander was a member of the prominent Quaker banking family and gave much of his time and money to philanthropic causes for the benefit of the people of Ipswich; he was also active in the temperance movement and was a founder of the Ipswich Ragged School.
