St. Werburgh's R.C. School was built in Queen Street in 1854. The Roman Catholic Church of St. Werburgh was opened in Queen Street in 1799, and classes were probably held before a school was built in 1854. Additional school buildings were erected in 1870. A new church was built in Grosvenor Park Road in 1875. In 1967 St. Werburgh's juniors moved into the premises in Love Street, vacated by the girls of Love Street School. St. Werburgh's infants remained in Queen Street until 1968, when a new infant school opened in Westminster Road, Hoole.
