Administrative / biographical background:

The first British School in Cheltenham opened in 1820 in a Sunday School room beneath the North Place Chapel. In 1858-59 it moved into new premises in Dunalley Street, and the school still occupies these buildings, although they have been modernised and extended. The original organization into separate boys', girls' and infants' departments was abandoned in 1934.
