Title: The Neville papers
Description:

Manorial, estate and family documents of the Neville and Aldworth families of Billingbear and Stanlake in Waltham St. Lawrence, Hurst and Ruscombe.

The papers of the related families of Neville of Billingbear Park and Aldworth of Stanlake, 1221 - 1935, include an exceptionally varied group of official records, reflecting the families' significant political roles and contributions to public life. Of particular interest are papers relating to the management of Windsor Forest, 1496 - 1817, and the notebooks of Richard Neville Aldworth (later Neville), recording parliamentary debates, 1747 - 1766. The correspondence of Henry Neville, MP, and his brother Richard, a Colonel in Charles I's army, 1640 - 1697, is also of interest. The estate records include title deeds and records of a number of manors in east Berkshire, c. 1375 - 1935. The archive also includes material deriving from other related families, including the Greys of Essex, the Stavertons of Warfield, and the Jalaberts of Geneva, Switzerland, and Sussex. One interesting early document is the prenuptial marriage settlement of John, son of Ralph, Lord Neville, and either Alienore or Elizabeth, daughters of Sir Thomas Holland, Earl of Kent, with the seal of the Earl's mother Joan Plantagenet (the Fair Maid of Kent).
