The collection features locomotives built for the LMS and LNER operating on the East and West Coast main lines, the Settle to Carlisle line, accidents and railways in the Leeds and Bradford area.

 

Overend's collection also includes photographs by J H Wright (further references to Wright are to be found in other NRM collections).

 

A typed list is available giving details of operating company, engine type, number, name and location. The prints may be viewed on request.

Administrative / biographical background:

Leslie Overend was encouraged by his father at an early age to take up photography, and when he was thirteen produced his first published photograph. This early success prompted Overend to make a career in photography and journalism, and with his father he founded the Overend Press Agency in 1926. In a long journalistic career he covered events throughout Yorkshire. The NRM acquired Overend's collection of railway photographs in 1984.
