Petition of William STOAKES, he had served in the Royalist Army, and when he was fighting had received several wounds. He had been wounded at Babylon Hill near Sherborne; under the command of Colonel Thomas LUNSFORD, then at Edgehill, where his Colonel was taken prisoner. William then fought at Brandsford, under the command of Colonel Henry LUNSFORD, then to Reading, and there beseiged... [document torn...] Then to the taking of Bristol with Prince RUPERT, thence to the seige of Gloucester, under the command of Sir John RUSSELL, Lieut Colonel to Prince RUPERT, at the Bridge of Boulton in Lancashire, from there to the taking of Liverpool, then to Marston Moor, where STOAKES had received many dangerous hurts, and afterwards was taken prisoner at Naseby. William escaped to London, where he lay languishing for 12 or 14 weeks. He is a very poor man with a wife and 6 children, he is unable to work for their maintenance, having lost the use of his limbs.
