In 1860 Fr. Francis Kirsopp was appointed to serve the western portion of Hexham parish, namely Haltwhistle with the station of Haydon Bridge. Haydon Bridge was served monthly and had a mixed school. The Church dedicated to St John of Beverley and the Presbytery were erected in 1872 and opened in 1873, the costs being defrayed out of the Newbrough fund, by which it was also endowed. |
