This collection comprises apprenticeship indenture between Oliver Barry Walker of Whitby and Alfred Walker, ship owner of Whitby 1883; certificates of discharge issued to O B Walker, showing service in various rates from able bodied seaman to Bos'un on the Mandalay, Cosmopolitan, Wilberforce, Unity, Bishopsgate, Thorsia, Mary, Barent, Jane, Rosehill, Discovery, Mulgrave, Endeavour, Robert Harrowing, Resolution, Adventure, Isabel and Cornucopia 1887-1897; continuous certificate of discharge issued to O B Walker, showing service in various rates from able bodied seaman to Bos'un on the Endeavour, Aislaby, Carperby, SS Cornucopia, Helredale and SS Erlesburgh 1902-1912; certificate of competency issued to O B Walker by the Shipping Federation 1891; certificate of discharge from the Royal Naval Reserve issued to O B Walker on completion of ten year's service 1902; record of service (mostly blank) issued to O B Walker by the Shipping Federation 1906-1907.
