Brentwood Petty Sessional Division included the sub-division of Billericay until 1947 when Billericay became a separate division [see P/Bi]. For a history of these divisions see A History of the Brentwood and Billericay Justices and their Courts 1321-1982 , C. Owen [copy in E.R.O. Library].

 

According to Kelly's Directories of Essex , 1878-1937, the Brentwood Petty Sessional Division comprised the following parishes for this period:

 

Basildon, North Benfleet, Bowers Gifford, Brentwood, Great Burstead, Little Burstead, Childerditch, Cranham, Doddinghurst, Downham, Dunton, East Horndon, West Horndon, Hutton, Ingrave, Laindon, Lee Chapel, Mountnessing, Nevendon, Pitsea, Ramsden Bellhouse, Ramsden Crays, Shenfield, Upminster (until 1893 when it became part of the newly created Romford Division), Vange, Great Warley, Little Warley, South Weald and Wickford. Rainham and Wennington were also originally part of the Brentwood Division but were both transferred to the Orsett Petty Sessional Division at sometime between 1882 and 1886.
