True-Form was founded in 1891 by J.G. Sears, in Cray Street, Northampton. In 1897, the first retail shop, controlled by W.T. Sears, brother of the founder, was opened outside the Central Markets in Londons Farringdon Street. In 1903 the company's expansion led to new premises in Adnitt Road, Northampton. Flourishing trade led to the company acquiring in 1928 the controlling interest in Freeman, Hardy and Willis. In 1953 Charles Clore took over the company to form the nucleus of British Shoe Corporation. |
