Title: | TREATMENT OF OFFENDERS COMMITTEE |
Description: |
The Treatment of Offenders Committee was set up at the Epiphany session, 1956, to follow the record of offenders who had been sentenced at Quarter Sessions to probation, borstal training, detention centres, approved schools or corrective training. It was hoped that the knowledge gained by the committee would lead to the better use of the forms of treatment available to the court. The committee also considered the aftercare of discharged prisoners and other aspects of prisoners' welfare. At the Michaelmas session, 1964, it was decided that the committee had fulfilled its function and that thereafter it should only meet to 'deal quickly with such matters as proposed new legislation'. |
