Administrative / biographical background: |
The foundation stone of the church, in Springbank Street, was laid in June 1838. The parish was carved out of St Mary's, Dukinfield and the first rector was the Rev R Brown. A school was constructed at the same time as the church, but the infant school, the first log book of which is among the collection, was erected in 1866. |
