In 1860 Fr. Francis Kirsopp was appointed to serve the western portion of Hexham parish namely Haltwhistle with the station of Haydon Bridge. Rented premises were used for the school and Chapel at Haltwhistle. The Church dedicated to the Holy Cross was erected in 1884. The Presbytery which stands in the same grounds was built in 1902 and the parish became known as St Wilfrid in the same year. Mass is now said in the United Reformed Church in Main Street, Haltwhistle. |
