Administrative / biographical background: |
William Atkinson, son of William & Mary Atkinson was baptised at Haltwhistle on 24 June 1832. At that time the family were living at Kitshield. There was at least one other child to William & Mary - a daughter Mary. There is some correspondence between William junior & Mary in these papers. When he was 31 William married Ann Stoker of Elsdon on 25 December 1862 at Humshaugh. Ann was five years younger than William. The couple had six children - Mary, George, Ann, John, Jane & William George. George died in 1874 aged 7 years. William Atkinson died in 1893 aged 62 years, seven years after the death of his wife. His will stipulated that his estate should be held in trust by three executors - Henry Nicholson, a steelworks manager of Newburn and Thomas Bainbridge & Thomas Oliver, both drapers of Newcastle. The estate was to be divided equally amongst his surviving children when the youngest attained the age of twenty one. |
