Administrative / biographical background:

A Rural Sanitary Authority was formed for Cuckfield Union in 1872 under the Public Health Act of that year. In 1895 the Rural Sanitary Authority became a Rural District Council under the terms of the Local Government Acts of 1894.

 

Many of the Orders affecting boundary changes in Cuckfield R.D.C. form part of the East Sussex County Council Records and these Orders have been listed below with their East Sussex Record Office reference numbers. These Orders have also been copied and are available in the West Sussex Record Office series of Miscellaneous Papers, these reference numbers also being listed below:
