That they had issued a warrant to stop the wages of Richard Harding the parish clerk; that Witty is not sole legal collector of these wages; that they did not mean to stop Witty's pay; that Witty has neglected school; that he draws the fees but does no teaching, so that people have to hire their own schoolmasters for their children; that neither Briscoe nor Chambers is able to travel to Carlisle at present, hence this written answer, Abbey Holme, 25 March 1657 Sent to Thomas Firch (Governor of Carlisle Castle) and Thomas Craister (Mayor of Carlisle) This document gives details of how these wages were collected and paid |
