9 Feb 1641 - Petition of Mary Wheeler, widow; in 1635, petitioner's late husband, churchwarden of St Botolph's, Colchester, was ordered by Dr Aylet to rail in the communion table, for refusing to do which, he was excommunicated and obliged to fly the country: prays for redress.

 

9 Feb 1641 - Petition of Henry Beaufou against Thomas Chamberlaine and Richard Chamberlaine, clerk of the Court of Wards, his father-in-law: claims right of redemption of the manors of Salford and Barford, and the advowson of the church of Salford mortgaged by petitioner's father in 1622 to Sir Thomas Chamberlaine.

(1) Errors assigned by the Lord Audley concerning his father's attainder.

 

17 Feb 1641 - Petition of landowners of Needham and Beriall, in the Isle of Ely [to House of Commons]; complain of certain decrees of sewers by which they are deprived of the benefits of certain main sewers made at their expense. Pray that Lord Hare and others, owners of Stow Bardolph and Bardolph Fen, may be called upon to answer.

 

20 Feb 1641 - Commission directed to Sir Baynham Throckmorton, Bart., Sir Robert Cooke, Knight, and others, to examine witnesses concerning sundry abuses committed in the levying of coat and conduct money in Gloucestershire, by Sir Ralph Dutton.

Feb 1641 - Petition of Richard Reynard. Complains of an illegal arrest of himself and his wife, at the instigation of Ralph Latham in 1639, and of defamation of character.

 

4 Mar 1641 - Petition of Robert Earl of Lindsey, Lord Great Chamberlain of England, on behalf of himself and others, knights, gentlemen, and inhabitants within the county of Lincoln; complains of the oppressions and abuses practised by Sir Walter Norton, under colour of a writ for raising ship money in the county of Lincoln, and prays that he may be called upon to answer.

 

4 Mar 1641 - Petition of Thomas Lowe. Having discovered His Majesty's title to several chauntries in Ireland, now held by certain guilds and corporations who pretend title to the same, was allotted a yearly revenue of £50. Prays that no letters or warrants, which certain of the guilds are now endeavouring to procure, may issue for the passing of any of the premises until full enquiry has been made.

 

6 Mar 1641 - Petition of Roger Calcott [to Henry Earl of Bath] relating to his petition for relief against certain proceedings of one Peter Coates, under the administration of the estate of the late George Broughton (undated).

20 Mar 1641 - Copy of order in the cause, 5 March 1641, relating to the petition of Thomas Nash, for further time to assign errors in his cause against Kynaston.

 

20 Mar 1641 - Petition of Lawrence Lisle. The late King granted to petitioner an imposition upon all tobacco and tobacco pipes brought into Ireland. The Earl of Strafford procured another lease thereof, to be made by His present Majesty to John Carpenter and others; petitioner prays for restitution of his rights, and for redress for the losses he has already sustained.

 

6 Apr 1641 - Petition of Grigory Gibbs, gentleman, prays for relief against an order of Lord Keeper Coventry, confirmed by Lord Keeper Finch, in a matter between petitioner and Lord Mohun, touching the felling of timber on lands in the manor of Southperrott, Dorsetshire.

 

27 Apr 1641 - Exceptions of Tristam Woodward and Ellen, his wife, to the manors of Tuddington, Charlgrave etc. being included in the bill. Relates to draft of an Act to enable the selling of certain manors in the counties of Middlesex and Bedford for the payment of the debts of the Earl of Cleveland and the Lord Wentworth, his son.

 

30 Apr 1641 - Petition of Daniel O'Neille, Esq.

 

12 May 1641 - Petition of Elizabeth, wife of George Manley, for redress against Sir Richard Manley, who, at the instance of a second wife, lately married, has failed to perform his promises of providing for petitioner and her husband, and burnt a deed which he had executed in their favour.

 

14 May 1641 - Petition of Sir James Thynne, respecting the living of Street, to which Dr Rawley has been unduly presented by one Egglesfield, and inducted by the Bishop of Bath and Wells, though the advowson belongs to petitioner. Prays for redress, which he had failed to obtain at law, owing to the unfair conduct of his opponents.

 

20 May 1641 - Petition of Lancelot Lake, Esq.; prays that certain proceedings in Chancery, taken by Sir Thomas Lake, his brother, touching the manor of Cannons and Winborrow, Great and Little Stanmore, in Middlesex, and other lands in Essex etc. may be reversed.

25 May 1641 - Petition of Edmund Mortimer; prays for an order for a new trial in Pembrokeshire touching certain lands there, about which there has been litigation for many years between petitioner and John Jenkin.

 

25 May 1641 - Petition of Samuel Proctor. Married Mary, daughter of Thomas Bulwere, of St Albans, with his consent, but, Thomas and his son, John have carried off petitioner's wife against her will, and keep her from him. The Bulweres' object is to ruin petitioner, and to avoid the payment of his wife's jointure; prays for redress from the House as he is without remedy elsewhere. Annexed:

25 May 1641 - Petition of Simon Rugeley for redress touching certain proceedings between him and Sir Richard Skeffington, concerning lands at Armitage, in the county of Stafford. Annexed:

27 May 1641 - Petition of James Calthorpe, son and heir of Sir Henry Calthorpe: in 1638 petitioner proceeded in the Court of Wards against William Umfreville for spoil and waste of the Mansion House of Stanaway Hall, in the county of Essex, in consequence of which Umfreville was imprisoned in the Fleet and sentenced to pay costs: but, under pretence of a protection from Lord Windsor, Umfreville has obtained his discharge, and will neither pay the costs, nor rent for a house in which he lives belonging to petitioner.

 

27 May 1641 - Petition of George Bere, for relief against a decree in Chancery, and for stay of proceedings in a cause between him and Hugh Boscawen, John Trefusis, and Richard Penrose, concerning the profits of certain lands in Cornwall, called the Barton of Trewinnick.

 

27 May 1641 - Petition of Thomas Bourcher, Esq., one of the gentlemen pensioners to His Majesty.

 

27 May 1641 - Petition of Edward Downes and others, creditors of John Bland, merchant. Pray that Humphrey Fox and the executors of Thomas Foynes may be ordered to join in an agreement with the rest of the creditors respecting Bland's estate.
