August 24. John Warwyke, chaplain [Rector of S. Werburgh's], exor of the Will of Robert Broun late burgess: [Recites a burgess' right to devise, and the bequest of the same ten.; Margaret is now dead]. The ten., in cons. of a sum of money paid in hand, is now sold by Warwyke to John Clowde, burgess, to hold as feoffee after the death of Joan [see A 10]. Witnesses: Thomas Knap', Mayor. Thomas Blount, Sheriff. Geoffrey Barbour and Thomas Gloucestre, Bailiffe. Philip Excestre. John Sutton'. Adam Inhyne. William Clerk. Stephen Reve; and many others. Dated: Bristoll', 24 August 1 Henry 4. Seal: one merchant's. Endorsed: [contemp.?] Tenementum in Hardewell venditum Iohanni Clowde per Iohannem Werwik' Capellanum at executorem Testamenti Roberti Browne. [A] This shews that there was a Custom in Bristol in Henry 4th time to devise Lands and Tenements in Bristoll by Will. Date. |
