Administrative / biographical background:

The Batley, Morley and Osset Labour Representative Committee was formed on 12th January 1918 in response to the redistribution of parliamentary constituencies resulting from the Representation of the People Act. The Committee was subsequently known as the Batley, Morley and Osset Divisional Labour Party, and later as the Batley and Morley Divisional Labour Party.
