Description:

One bundle of documents, loosely tied with red tape and including a letter from Robert Cooper Sinclair, Primrose Hill, London, dated 18 January 1881, and another from Campbell and Lyttelton, Warwick, solicitors, dated 5 October 1895, each addressed to The Rev. F.G. Cholmondeley, and each saying documents were enclosed. It is impossible to tell to which documents each letter refers or whether both refer to them all. The documents comprise:-

 

Incumbent: memorial of The Rev. Thomas Cox, vicar, to the Lords Commissioners, under 46 Geo. III, c.133, the act relating to the redemption and sale of land tax and the exoneration of small livings therefrom, 1807, certificates (two) of amount of land tax charged on property belonging to the vicarage of Leek Wootton and (on reverse) certificate of exoneration therefrom, one relating to property in the parish of Leek Wootton, the other in that of Mancetter 1807, marriage licence 1863, plan for conversion into a cottage of a barn [? on Outwoods Farm, Mancetter] 1892, miscellaneous correspondence relating mostly to glebe (5 pieces) 1877-1901;

 

Churchwardens: faculty to take down and rebuild the parish church, with plan, 1790; account for repairs to bells 1794;

 

Vestry: appointment of a common cowherd by the inhabitants of Church Wootton 1726

 

Overseers of the Poor: Orders (two) of General Sessions of the Peace, one relating to rogues, vagabonds and sturdy beggars 1662, the other to the gravelling of Chesford bridge by the parishes of Lillington and Leek Wootton 1692, apprenticeship indenture 1711, letter relating to an [apprentice's] misdeeds 1742, memorandum of a deed of gift by Mary Gess widow 1763; agreement by the inhabitants using land in the fields of Church Wootton to "make their Mounds and Hayne [?in: torn] the Peakfield", date obliterated [?mid 18th cent.]

 

Charities: memorandum relating to the charity of John Sly and Eleanor his wife 1618, n.d., certificate of £213. 1. 0d. in the Consolidated £3 per Cent. Annuities, and memorandum, relating to the Daniel Winter Burbury school charity 1838, letter (copy) relating to the school charity 1852, memorandum that the trust deed belonging to the school was in the custody of John Nicks, churchwarden, 1876, correspondence relating to the Alicia, Duchess Dudley Charity, n.d., 1879-95.
