Administrative / biographical background:

Pigott Street Temporary Council School opened in 1920 in premises of the former Bath Row Grammar School accommodating mixed and infant children. It also appears to have been known as Bath Row Temporary School. In 1925, the mixed children were accommodated in the Sunday Schools of the Francis Road Congregational Church as a temporary measure during the rebuilding of Pigott Street School. The infant children were transferred to Bristol Street School. Permanent premises opened in 1926 as Pigott Street Council School, providing accommodation for senior mixed children. The name of the school was changed to Islington Senior Council School in 1928. Part of the school premises were taken over by Islington Council School in 1939 [see S108] and remainder of the building was occupied by the primary school on the closure of this school in 1947
