The collection contains correspondence, news-cuttings, minutes, volumes, historical accounts, photographs, postcards, slides and printed materials. In particular, there is a signed copy of "Bygone Stalybridge" by Samuel Hill and a letter stating that "Tipperary" was written in Stalybridge. The photograph collection is also of particular interest. Stalybridge Historical Society was formed in 1961 and the inaugural meeting was held on June 7th at the Old Greyhound Hotel, Stalybridge. The objects of the Society are: the protection and preservation of buildings and sites of historical and special local interest; to collect and keep records of the past; and to educate Members and Townspeople on the birth and growth of Stalybridge. |
