Administrative / biographical background:

The children of Sarah and Joseph Miller were all born before the first World War; all were born in Poland except Kitty, who was born in London. Sarah and Joseph had their first hotel in a house, being more of a boarding housethan a hotel. Then they had a Restaurant on Great Ducie Street and in 1938 moved to 99, Cheetham Hill Road, where Miller's Hotel is now. Sarah Miller was Mr Beaver's maternal grandmother, out is also Mrs Beaver's maternal great-aunt, so Mr and Mrs Beaver are second cousins.

On Mr Beaver's father's side, his aunts and uncles were: (apart from his father) David, who married out and lives on the Isle of Wight.

and possibly more.

Mr Beaver's grandfather was married twice, and had several children by his second marriage as well. Mr Beaver did not know very much about this side of the family, but thought that his grandfather Beaver came from London.

Mr Beaver's wife was born Angela Zajd in Chmielnik, in Poland. She came to England in March, 1939, aged about 16, for the holidays, but after the war broke out, she managed to get a work permit and was able to stay. Mrs Beaver worked for Ike and Sarah Miller at Miller's Restaurant. All the rest of her family were never heard of again after the Second World War.

Mrs Beaver was the eldest of eight children of Sarah Rochelle/Rachel Cieslewicz and her husband, Mr Zajd. However, Mr Zajd died before Angela was born. Her mother married again to a man named Rotter, and so Angela was really called Angela Rotter; her seven brothers and sisters were presumably killed in the Holocaust.

Mrs Beaver's mother was the daughter of Abram Cieslewicz and his wife Welka. Welka was one of three sisters, that Mrs Beaver can remember; Sarah, who married Joseph Miller, Welka and Dobba.
