Title: | TRANSPORT & GENERAL WORKERS UNION : NATIONAL UNION OF VEHICLE BUILDERS |
Description: |
The archive of the National Union of Vehicle Builders was split into 2 parts in the 1970s and is described in 2 parts here. The first consists of the older records, including many branch records, which were placed in the Vehicle Building and Automotive Museum established in Coventry by the Transport and General Workers Union. The museum opened in 1976 and closed in 1980: the records were transferred to the union's Regional Office (where a few other records appear to have been added to those deposited) and subsequently to the Centre. The second part of the archive consists of more recent records, mainly 1947-72, which were taken to the London headquarters of the Transport and General Workers Union. following the transfer of engagements from the National Union of Vehicle Builders. The second part of the archive was deposited in the Modern Records Centre before the first. Please note that some documents in the archive use Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers for Amalgamated Society of wheelwrights Table of Contents Part 1 : Records formerly in Vehicle Building & Automotive Musuem Minutes MSS.126/VB/1/1/i-viii National Executive, 1907-47 MSS.126/VB/1/2/1-3 Rules Revision Conferences, 1899-1946 MSS.126/VB/1/3/1 Jt. mtg. re United Kingdom Joint Wages Board of Employers for Vehicle Building, 1953 MSS.126/VB/1/4/1-47 United Kingdom Joint Wages Board of Employers for Vehicle Building National Negotiating Conferences, 1949-61 MSS.126/VB/1/5 Engineering Employers Federation National Negotiating Conferences, 1941-56 MSS.126/VB/1/6/1 Engineering Employers Federation Local Negotiating Conference, Birmingham, 1956 MSS.126/VB/1/7/1-18 Engineering Employers Federation Local Negotiating Conferences, Coventry, 1915-50 MSS.126/VB/1/8/1 Coventry arbitration, 1941 Financial Records MSS.126/VB/2/1-2 Records re benefits, 1856-1903 Correspondence and Subject Files MSS.126/VB/3/7 General Secretary's out-letter book, 1912-16 MSS.126/VB/3/8/1-3 Misc., 1907-08 MSS.126/VB/3/9 Circulars, [1877]-1971 MSS.126/VB/3/10-22 Vehicle Building & Automotive Musuem, curator's files, 1973-80 Publications of UKS/National Union of Vehicle Builders MSS.126/VB/4/5/1-10 Report, later Report and Journal, 1851-1919 MSS.126/VB/4/6/1-23 Rules, 1859-1967 MSS.126/VB/4/7/1-9 Miscellaneous, 1860-[1970] Publications other than those of UKS/National Union of Vehicles Builders MSS.126/VB/5 Sub-groups in the Archive MSS.126/VB/6/ Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers/1-8 Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers Birmingham 6th Branch, 1896-1935 MSS.126/VB/6/TG/1 Transport and General Workers Union 5/105 Branch, [1945-7?] MSS.126/VB/6/BD/1-22 National Union of Vehicle Builders Birmingham District, 1923-52 MSS.126/VB/6/LD/1-3 National Union of Vehicle Builders Leeds District, 1947-66 MSS.126/VB/6/LOD/1-4 National Union of Vehicle Builders London District, 1919-67 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/A/1-2 Aylesbury Branch, 1924-63 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/BL/1 Blackpool Branch, 1916-52 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/BR/1-11 Bradford Branch, 1930-68 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/CK/1-3 Coachmakers' Friendly Society of City of Cork, [1812?]-1824 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/CO/1 Coventry Branch, 1915-59 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/DR/1 Darlington Branch, 1904-72 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/G/1-4 Grantham Branch, 1925-44 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/HA/1-11 Handsworth Branch, 1933-59 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/HU/1-8 Hull Branch, 1845-1926 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/N/1 Norwich Branch, 1867-1921 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/PA/1 Paisley Branch, 1896-1954 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/PR/1-11 Preston Branch, 1904-62 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/SA/1-18 Saltley Branch, 1906-68 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/SU/1-2 Sunderland Branch, 1866-1947 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/SW/1-4 Swindon Branch, 1869-97 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/WK/1 Wakefield Branch, 1904-56 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/YO/1-24 York Branch, 1854-1964 MSS.126/VB/6/BR/Z/1-3 Unidentified branch, 1938-[55] Miscellaneous MSS.126/VB/7/1/1 Contributions cards, 1919-61 MSS.126/VB/7/2/1 Travelling/transfer cards, 1844-1919 MSS.126/VB/7/3/1 Rules revision and registration, 1908-62 MSS.126/VB/7/4/1 National Health Insurance, miscellany, 1912-23 MSS.126/VB/7/5/1-3 Shop Stewards' & Rank and File ephemera, 1933-50 MSS.126/VB/7/6 Wholly misc., 1924-58 MSS.126/VB/7/7 List of Coventry National Union of Vehicle Builders records Agreements MSS.126/VB/9/1/1-3 Agreements, 1910-1919 & 1940-6 Photographs MSS.126/VB/12/1-12 Aamalgamated Society of Wheelwrights Smiths & Kindred Trades MSS.126/WH/1/1/1-/4/3 Various records of Amal.
