Charles Hopton gave instructions in his will to establish a charity. Land was purchased in Green Walk in the parish of Christ Church, Surrey on which 26 almshouses were built for 26 'poor decayed men who had been housekeepers'. An endowment was subsequently provided which consisted of houses on Croydon Road, Durban Road and Belmont Road, Beckenham.
