Description:

Copied extracts in Swedish, translated into English: (1) a letter (from Vienna, original date 27 June, 1845) from Jakob Axel Josephson to 'Herr Hofrattsradets'. NB An annotation, in Otto Goldschmidt's hand, to the front page of the file identifies the recipient, however, as H M Munthe (Jenny Lind's guardian). (2) A Swedish newspaper clipping (the first marked paragraph copied in Swedish and translated into English) of an article by J A Josephson (author proposed by a pencil annotation at the head of the Swedish copied text). The text compares Lind favourably with a number of other singers, including [Maria] Malibran, [Guidetta] Pasta, [Angelica] Catalini, and [Henriette] Sonntag. Verso the newspaper clipping are incidental dates that suggest the newspaper from which the text has been clipped is from 1887 (note: Josephson died in 1880).
