Videotape copy of "Home Movies", a series of five programmes made by Forum Television and broadcast in 1994.

 

Each programme lasts c 25 minutes and features amateur cinefilm showing subjects in SW England and reminiscences of the families concerned

 

Programme One: "A family Affair"

 

Includes footage of George Fear and family, 1935 (see also D5673); Barton family of Cinderford, 1930s; Bruce Stait of Cheltenham and family 1960s; Hopkins family of Paignton, Devon 1960s

 

Programme Two: "High Days and Holidays"

 

Includes footage of Dulverton, Dunster and Minehead, Somerset; Butlins; Bristol Vespa Club, late 1950s/early 1960s

 

Programme Three: "As It Happened"

Includes footage of floods in Lynmouth, Devon 1952; shipwrecks off Cornish coast; closure of Bristol Embassy Cinema, 1963; The Beatles at Colston Hall, Bristol and filming "Help" on Dartmoor, c 1964

 

Programme Four: "Work"

 

Includes footage of meat production in Swindon, 1950s, Forest of Dean free miners; St Ives fishermen, 1930s; women farmworkers, Cornwall, 1930s; farmworkers in Wilts, 1939

 

Programme Five: "On the Home Front"

 

Includes footage of St Ives, 3 September, 1939 (declaration of war); evacuees in Urlington, Devon and Calne, Wilts; home guard, Market Lavington (Wilts); the blitz, Exeter, 1942; women war workers and concert party, Frome, Somerset.
