Title: | Conversation between Fred Kennington and Richard Fawcus, Seahouses re working as a fisherman in the area since 1947 |
Description: |
PART 1. OF TWO TAPES. Mr.Fawcus, a fisherman since 1947, speaks in a rich Seahouses dialect. He started work in a coble at the crab and lobster fishing, and after 2 years he 'got a berth in a seine netting boat'. He talks about inshore fishing; about the sandbanks, and about the tidal harbour at Seahouses. He describes seine netting - 'everything was 'hand-draulic!' Boats could be laid up when men had sore hands - gloves were not used then. He also talks about the catches. |
