Administrative / biographical background:

John Ireland Blackburne (1783 - 1874) of Hale Hall, was descended from two of the most ancient families of Lancashire, the Blackburnes of Orford and the Irelands of the Hutt and Hale. His father, John Blackburne, (1754 - 1833) had been M.P. for Lancashire from 1784 to 1832. John Ireland Blackburne was M.P. for Newton from 1807 to 1818 and for Warrington from 1831 to 1847.
