Description:

This mutual insurance society for employees of the Great Northern Railway Company appears to have been established in 1850 to provide sickness and death benefits for its members. The society was based in Doncaster, where the railway company had its headquarters, and there were nine divisions based on Boston, Bradford, Colwick, Doncaster (two divisions), Grantham, Leeds, London and Peterborough. Falling membership led the society to seek voluntary dissolution in 1981.
