Description:

Folios 262-264. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from John Walsham, Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union Workhouse on 28 January 1856; includes details of medical provision, management of School, Vagrant Wards, and number of Inmates.
In respect of the school he states that the suggestion of a wood flooring in the boys' school instead of brick as per the school inspection has received attention. Walsham suggests the girls' schoolroom should be enlarged. He also mentions once again that he sees a need for pupil teachers in view of the number of children but realises the guardians view on obtaining the necessary finance.
The sanitary condition in the workhouse is satisfactory although there are cases of typhus and scarlatina in some localities within the union.
There is no overcrowding in the workhouse with the men in single beds.
A return from the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union for April 1855 showing comparative Expenditure for 'In Maintenance', 'Out relief', and 'Officers Rations' for the years 1851-1855 is attached.
