Description:

Recording the declarations before witnesses of (a) Thomas Tillisworth of London, draper, and (b) Joan White of St. Giles without Cripplegate, widow, (a), who holds to farm of John Sedley, one of the King's auditors in the Exchequer, a stable in Allhallows-the-less, late of John Mane, gent., and Edmund Burton, declares before John Reve, clerk, the notary, and William Shale, salter, Alyn Powlley, stockfishmonger, citizens of London, and William Plate 'and oder standyng aboute' in the shop or dwellinghouse of the said notary 'openly sett' in Allhallows-the-Great, in Thames Street, that he has occupied the said stable, by the demise of the said John Mane, for 16s. yearly, the said John Mane bearing the cost of all the repairs, and he has made 'a Crosse Wall beneth in the stable, ffor the which he asked to be allowed of the same John Sedley the which is nowe landlord'.

 

(b), who late held of the said John Sedley a brewhouse called the Swanne in Tower Street, late of the said John Mane and Edmund [Burton], declares before the said notary, and Martin Fowlyng, brewer, Thomas Harman and Thomas Brokton 'wt eder standying aboute and hering the same' in the hall of the tenement called the Sign of the Crown, without the said Cripplegate, that she held the said brewhouse for £6 yearly, of the said John Mane and Edmund [Burton], that she had been tenant in the same house for 20 years, that when she paid her rent to the said John Mane 'he wold of his curtsy geve or send somtyme agayn a grote therof to her and this he did many tymes', and that the said John Sedley, having purchased the property of the said John Mane, demanded £6 2s. 0d. rent which she did not pay.
