'A MAP of the ANTIENT TOWN of WINCHELSEA in the County of SUSSEX taken from an Actual Measurement by order of Mr E[dwin] WARDROPER, MDCCLXIII By Charles Stephens' Ink and colour on parchment, 26 x 32; 3 chains: one inch. Shows the area of the ancient town as refounded by Edward I. Field-names and areas written in the plots, subsequently annotated with quarter-numbers. Principal buildings and locations keyed by letter to a table of reference below the title. The lands of Mrs Harcourt, [Charles Wyndham] Lord Egremont, Mr [Arnold] Nesbitt, Capt [Nathaniel] Pigram and Mr [Edwin] Wardroper distinguished by coloured boundaries. Buildings drawn in perspective view; streets coloured and named. The title, compass rose and a blank coat of arms are coloured and decorated with palm trees. Names of neighbouring owners shown on red and yellow ribands. |
