Administrative / biographical background:

Ilkeston Gaslight and Coke Co was formed in 1846. The Local Authority took control of the undertaking through the Ilkeston Order 1878. In 1887 Ilkeston became a corporation. The works were located on Rutland St and extended in 1909 and 1913 through the Ilkeston (Gas) Order 1909 and the Ilkeston Order 1913. The Ilkeston Gas Order 1926 extended the limits of supply to include Kirk Hallam and South East Shipley.

 

On Nationalisation in 1949 the company became part of the Derby sub-division of the Notts and Derby division of the EMGB
