Description:

In 1746 Claxton's trustees sold it to Thomas Johnson who bequeathed it to his grandson Martin Sendall in 1758. Sendall died intestate in 1778 leaving his cousin George Hunt Holley jnr. his heir at law. In 1778 Holley conveyed it for an annuity to his father George Hunt Holley sen. and in 1799 James Hunt Holley sold it to Thomas Rump gent. In 1810 Rump bequeathed it to his brother John who in 1836 settled it with option to purchase in favour of James Smith Rump his great - nephew and in 1861 it was sold by mortgagees to Henry Woods Butler to whom it was reconveyed in 1875 following a further mortgage. In 1861 the property comprised a house, 16 cottages and 288 acres in Booton, Little Witchingham and Brandiston. Documents include copy wills of Robert Claxton gent. proved 1739, Thomas Johnson gent. of Norwich proved 1758, George Hunt Holley jun. of Aylsham dated 1778; settlement (monetary) before marriage between Martin Sendall gent. and Mary Johnson 1745; and clause of will of Thomas Rump gent. proved 1810; deed by which Peter Elwin conveyed to George Hunt Holley five pieces of land in Booton in exchange for lands in Church Hirne, Church Field, Little Field, Great Field and Peddar's Close, also in Booton, 1783; copy Booton Inclosure Act 1810 and extracts from the Award; conveyance from the Inclosure Commissioners to John Rump of 9a. in. 11p. part of Booton Common 1811; and answer of J.S. Rump in Chancery suit re his exercising the option to buy under the Settlement of 1836.
