Of particular interest to artists, archivists with an interest in the development of archive collections and students and researchers interested in the History of Tate. The archives acquisitions sub-series is expected to be particularly popular

Tate Gallery Archive, (1970-)

Access conditions: No records held at The National Archives in this departmental code

Custodial history: Once first review is completed the records are transferred directly to the Gallery Records store at Millbank in London

Due to the expansion of the Archive and its activities, an increasing number of accruals are expected over time. The Archives acquisitions sub-series is expected to be particularly large as this documents all purchases/donations to the Tate Archive

The Archive of British Art was established in 1970 although the gallery had begun to keeping records of artists, art dealers and art societies since 1957
