Administrative / biographical background:

The Lord Mayor of Liverpool's War Fund was launched on 15 February,1940, for the benefit of Liverpool service men and women and their dependents, and civilians engaged in the defence of Merseyside. In 1946, the Fund was closed to further subscriptions and the balance handed over to the Liverpool Council of Social Service. The Fund was wound up on 31st March 1948 the residue being distributed to various Liverpool welfare organisations.
