Administrative / biographical background:

The Company is said to date from an ordinary of 1621. Meetings were held at premises on the south-side of Blackfriars. The Head Meeting day was originally on Ash Wednesday, but in 1713 it was changed to the Wednesday prior to Ash Wednesday.
