The records consist of the minute book covering the years 1910 to 1945 (in 1946 the National Health Service was created and therefore took over the responsibilities of the joint committee), and annual reports for 1911 to 1947 from the Medical Officer ofHealth to the joint committee. Annual reports also exist from 1885 and 1893 for the West Berkshire United District's predecessor - the county-wide Berkshire Combined Sanitary District (see J/WB 2/1 and 2/2).

The West Berkshire United Districts was formed in 1910 as a result of a decision by the Rural and Urban Districts of West Berkshire that it would be advantageous to combine for matters relating to sanitation and be answerable to one Medical Officer ofHealth.
